This was a personal end-of-the-year project created on a whim with no prior outline or music chosen. I freed myself from strict boundaries (not editing to music meant I got to choose how long sequences lasted) and also had no mark for how long it had to be. I had a lot of fun pushing my creativity by envisioning transitions from each section to the next and implementing themes along the way (circles that mimic CDS, technology, and complementary colors).
Every album cover was chosen in mind with what the music playlist encompasses. My favorite editing music connects to my most used program Adobe After Effects which is associated with the color purple.
I used similar approaches to my ‘library loop’ playlist which includes animated fire around the song titled ‘Fired Up’.
Every aspect was made by my hands, both the animation expressions used on text (00:05) and the moving white line that connects from image to image (00:04 and 00:14). Using 3D posed some frustrating challenges, especially with so many layers, but I wanted to create a sense of depth. This is why there is never a ‘solid’ background used but only color gradients instead.
Here is a 2 camera point of view of what is rendered (left) versus the 3D model I created on the right. I move the digital 3D camera from one playlist to the next and have it follow the white line so the viewer isn’t staring into a void.
Music has always been a huge value in my life and I feel it reflects who someone is as a person, which is why I was very particular and meticulous with the choices I made during editing and I hope it conveys my thought process!

Here is an excerpt from my artist statement submitted for Spiral Gate:
“Spiral Gate is a creation born from the unsettling inner workings of my mind and attempts to put them on display in a tangible setting… The sound invokes a sensation of detachment from one’s body, a phenomenon often experienced when one becomes overly conscious of being observed… Editing is my favorite took for expression; therefore, I used the Sapphire plugin ‘Wide Time’ to create a dizzy delay. Masking and aligning the different versions of myself was the trickiest part…”
Here is a summary of my work for Sour Tears:
Sour Tears was made during the beginning stage of my introduction to digital filmmaking class where we were very limited (no sound other than a song and a hard 4 minute time limit). However, I tried to keep it engaging with various editing techniques such as a split screen and time remapping. I also paid great attention to color and the motif of fruit.
